[MittleiderMethodGardening] Struck by the Reality that Eating Vegetables is Most Healthy!
Group:
Yesterday's post about Dr. Joel Fuhrman's books Eat to Live and Eat For Health really got me thinking. I printed his ANDI Scoring System: Sample Scores Chart and studied it some, and was amazed at what it shows about the relative nutritional value of vegetables as compared to meats, etc.
I don't know of studies regarding vegans, or Seventh Day Adventists (vegetarians) being longer livers than the population in general, but I am aware of several studies which show that practicing members of the Mormon Church have substantially increased life expectancies, as compared to the general population.
One study by researchers at UCLA that included 9,800 participants and measured activity over 25 years showed dramatic differences, with the men living 10 years longer and the women living 5 years longer than non-LDS contemporaries. A link to that information is here http://www.mormontimes.com/article/1758/UCLA-study-proves-Mormons-live-longer
The Word of Wisdom, by which LDS people live, instructs them to eat vegetables and grains, and to eat meat "sparingly", just as Dr. Fuhrman recommends.
The Word of Wisdom was given about 175 years ago. For any who are interested in what modern-day leaders of the Mormon Church have to say about healthful eating here's an article from the Meridian Magazine giving several statements on the subject.

I expect the Group would be interested in hearing of other groups with documented health benefits from healthier eating habits.
How important is having, growing, and eating from your own garden? Ultimately it could be a matter of life and death! As the FFE foundation's motto states "For the garden you'd want if your life depended on it!"
Spread the word! And for any of you interested in really becoming competent - and perhaps helping others - we've made the Gardening Seminar DVD/CD available for order on the website for only $12.95!
It includes two videos viewable on any DVD player, plus 4 PowerPoint presentations and several Word documents as well. This is the material I use when conducting live gardening seminars and workshops, and every serious gardener will be greatly benefited from studying it.
Go to http://foodforeveryone.org/garden_wizard/ to order. Sorry the page looks weird, and still says Garden Wizard. We need help from our WebMaster to fix the appearance.
