[MittleiderMethodGardening] Healthy Eating - including green (and fruit) smoothies

Since the subject of healthy eating has been raised,
I have a link and a book to share.

The link is http://whfoods.org/
... "world's healthiest foods" ... they have a lot of info
on the nutritional content of many foods. If you look up
a few of them, I think you will be very impressed with
things like kale, collards, spinach, broccoli, etc

You might even decide to grow some kale in your Mittleider
Garden next chance you get. ( my favorite kale is lacinato )

The book is "Green for Life" by Victoria Boutenko.
Available from Amazon, and elsewhere. Victoria talks about
making "green smoothies" using a Vita-Mix. I have taken
her basic idea and added a lot of other things.

Most of my smoothies start with kale, spinach, broccoli,
and carrot. From there, you can go two different ways:
you can make sweet smoothies by adding fruits, such as
apples or berries, ( and maybe some ginger root )
... or you can make savory smoothies by adding
tomatoes, hot chili peppers, and maybe even some
black beans or miso. You can experiment and make up
your own concoctions. I have found this to be a very
easy way to consume a lot of vegetables.

( of course I still love a good salad ) :D

(Thanks for the reminder! We have fruit smoothies several times a week - often with a carrot thrown in, but I keep forgetting to add the greens! - JK)
