Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] DE for the garden
I buy my DE at the local co-op store, 18.00 for a 25Kg bag...as a cattle feed
supplement It is used as a wormer for cattle internal parasites.... It is an
effective product for garden use, sprinkled on brassica and other leafy
crops... and keeps slugs away too... and I confirm it does not affect the worms
 in the ground.

 Cheers.. Tim

When I listed the DE comment to start this all off, I ha did allot of research
before mentioning it. We had discussed this on another site,
ediblecontainergarden. I did a test with Japanese beetles, putting them into a
container, with some dust. After 4 days, they all died. Now I don't know if
this is really an example of dusting in the garden, but it does detour Japanese
beetles (the only organic control I could find), and after doing more research,
found that humans were taking it also. This did surprise me, but the more I read
about it, the more interesting it became to me. You couldn't get anymore
organic then this. So I purchased some and used it. I am happy with it, both on
the garden and internally. It doesn't hurt worms, I have tried it myself. I had
a bin of worms, for composting kitchen waste, and I sprinkled about a cup
throughout the material. The worms were not bothered at all, and are still
living to this day. We discovered its uses in the other group,,,just thought
this one could use the heads up...Linda B

I've been using the DE for several years to control the ants in the
greenhouse. There was a time when I couldn't do anything anywhere without
disturbing a colony of little black ants. Not they are rare - and quickly
controlled. Also no more aphids on the - anything - using the duster - big
yellow tube with a crank to send it under the leaves. Don't know about the worms
 - I'll send them an email and ask.

I have read in many locations that Diatomaceous Earth does NOT harm
 earthworms.

I would like to see a source that says it does if you have that reference
please, because I may need to back down on my use of the stuff.

also have dusters and sell the earth, but more expensive than your feed store.

wouldn't hurt to try theirs. I believe they say it is more white than some
