Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Preparing Ground

Hi Shelly,
From what I've read and experienced, all plants need sun, water and air to survive. If you deprive them from any of these, they will die. Once any of these 3 are introduced again, the hardy plants (grass, weeds, etc) will come back. If you keep them covered, whether with plastic or newspaper or heavy cardboard, eventually the worms will come and start breaking down the plant into usable soil material. Grass is a very hardy plant and will find a way to survive. It is best to pull it out by the roots or kill it by covering it and depriving it of light. (but depriving a perennial of light won't kill the roots, rhizomes, and runners, so you need something more, like extreme extended heat - JK)
Hope this helps,
Rita

Subject: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Preparing Ground

Preparing ground to get ready for a garden.
I have a large area that I can use for a garden.
I did not get to have one this year due to an injury, of my shoulder/neck.
I did get the area bush hogged and then mowed, I have placed
clear plastic over part of it and now the grass is dying under
most of it. It has been over 100 for the last week or so.
Not sure what to do after I move the plastic to another area?
Is the plastic a good way to kill the grass/weeds? I read it
somewhere.

Thank you, Shelly
