Vegetables Gardening - Growing Organic Vegetables

Preparing ground to get ready for a garden.
I have a large area that I can use for a garden.
I did not get to have one this year due to an injury, of my shoulder/neck.
I did get the area bush hogged and then mowed, I have placed
clear plastic over part of it and now the grass is dying under
most of it. It has been over 100 for the last week or so.
Not sure what to do after I move the plastic to another area?
Is the plastic a good way to kill the grass/weeds? I read it
somewhere.
