Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Re: Stock up on Seeds & Fertilizers NOW. They are Sometimes Discounted in the Fall
PotAto seed? I have never started them from seed only cuts that I save. Do you collect these as you do other seeds?

That's a really good question Sharon! It is extremely rare to find gardeners who are able to get and save true seeds from their potatoes.
I received 6 varieties of seed from Peru, only after waiting to have them go through a Phyto-Sanitary Quarantine for several months while samples of each variety were grown in the government labs to make sure they were not bringing any disease into the country.
Most varieties I've grown in the USA produce so few seed pods that I have never tried to save and use the seed myself either. However, a purple variety that I grew this year gave me about 20 seed pods. I am trying to dry them out, and will see if I can recover seeds from them. The suggestion to run them through a food processor seems risky to me, so we'll see if I am able to recover any viable seeds!
