Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Corn

yep we planted a 4' x 4' block of Bonus Baby Corn and we harvested 3 full canner loads (pints) of baby corn we use for chow mein. They were planted 4" apart in rows 8" apart. Each one produced 3 ears per plant a few had 4 or 5 ears per plant and they only grew about 4' tall or so. Dad got the seed from Burpee's site: http://www.burpee.com/vegetables/corn/baby-corn-bonus-prod099641.html

I do not like bi-colored sweet corn nor do I like the straight white corn, neither are sweet to me. We also add used coffee grounds tilled in where the corn will be planted and side dress again in july with coffee grounds. This is the only way we can get decent ears on our sweet corn.

One year we planted some Glass Gem corn (flint type corn) for daughter for 4-H project. Wow those stalks got over 10' tall!! thankfully they were on the north side of the garden LOL. She did get a purple ribbon for it and makes decent popcorn also.

Our main crops that we plant every year are Tomato, Belle Peppers, Carrots, Bush Beans (Jade II), shelling peas, beets, snow peas, onion, watermelon, leaf celery, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, leaf lettuce (for our rabbits)  and head lettuce.

We also have 4 raspberry bushes, and plan on adding a couple of dwarf apple trees in the near future.
