Sorry, I failed to answer the second question - when to stop feeding.
For single-crop varieties you feed until 3 weeks before maturity
For ever-bearing varieties you continue feeding until 8 weeks before expected killing frost.
If you are growing greens - like kale - and you keep them picked, they will continue to produce for many months. For these plants keep feeding them, but only every other week after they are mature, until 3 weeks before your final harvest.
