The pallet idea has a lot of recommend it. It would help keep the weeds out of the beds; but it would also allow the leach field to work better since the air space would allow it to work better (evaporation being one of the ways the leach field does its thing), and I would not have to worry about possible contamination of my plants from contact with said leach field. Now all I have to do is find a load of pallets! I may still use the weed barrier cloth to keep the weeds down in the paths and under the beds, but that won't stop the evaporation process.
