[MittleiderMethodGardening] RE: Preplant mix in alkaline soil - with (Hopefully Better) response from Jim Kennard
Thanks, Jim, I will use the gypsum. It does contain some sulphur (to make it, rock phosphate is treated with sulfuric acid). I usually add dry molasses which contains many micro nutrients and sulphur. It's fast-acting and all those little microbes in the soil really love it.
I am learning some really neat things....I do love the T-frames! Do you think jute twine would be strong enough to support tomatoes for one season ? I like the idea of using jute because at the end of the season it's "snip, snip, pull" and the whole thing goes into the compost pile....twine, tomato plant and all. I'm a little concerned because the wind might tear them up without a cage. I'm on top of a hill and there's *always* a breeze and the winds can get quite high at times. Has that been a problem for anyone?
I am having a very difficult time finding an organic fertilizer with high enough numbers. I did find some 10-10-10 for about $7/#.... too rich for me. My people were frugal Germans and I just can't make myself spend that much money for fertilizer. Any suggestions?
Thanks again for all your help,
Pat
