RE: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Mosquito problem

Try putting a little bit of lemon or some vinegar in your drinking water. It works for me. Kayt

Subject: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Mosquito problem

I was reading this old post about getting rid of slugs, as they sometimes are a big problem in my garden, but there is no way I can go out at night to pick them, as I seem to be a mosquito magnet! My husband and brother are smokers, and mosquitos don't seem to bother them. I am not a smoker, and If I step out at night or early morning, they seem to flock to me. Sometimes even during the middle of the day, they are after me. I have tried that "Mosquito" plant, let me tell you, it doesn't work. I have tried the torches even with the "Mosquito" fuel, and it doesn't work. I hate to have to spray the Deet on me, and sometimes even with that, I get bit. I try and make sure there is no standing water in my yard, but I don't always have time to dump everything. Anyone have any other ideas on how to repel Mosquitos? Thanks.

Teri P.

Hi
Using bread as an attractant works, for me, even better than beer. The only problem is having to go hand-collect them, dusk and later, aided by a flashlight. But bread is safe for pets, wildlife, and soil, (and I can safely feed slug-ingested bread to my ducks and chickens). Sluggo and beer get expensive, but the tradeoff for using bread is investing time. I count it as spending more time in the garden - it lets me see what's going on at night.
One thought: collecting is easier with a strap-on head light to keep hands free.
Happy hunting!
