Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] ? on prices of Fertilizers
Hello Jim, On the talk of fertilizer types- rain fall > 18", dolomite lime,
< 18" gypsum. Is there one calcium mineral that would cover both
situations.
Best Regards, & Thanks Shadowood
Shadowood & Group:
No.
Both have calcium as a major ingredient. Calcium raises soil pH. Where annual rainfall is above 20" soil pH is acidic, or below 7 (neutral), so having the pH raised is a GOOD thing. Where annual rainfall is BELOW 18" soil pH is ABOVE 7, and raising pH any more is a BAD thing.
Gypsum has sulfur in almost equal amounts as calcium, and sulfur LOWERS soil pH, therefore adding that form of calcium gives the soil the needed nutrition without hurting the pH.
