[MittleiderMethodGardening] What Kind of Sawdust & What Directions for Soil-beds or Boxes

I have been following this group for some time now and finally was able to get the nutrients and I'm getting ready to do a few experimental (for me) beds using this method.

Question 1: My husband went to a saw mill today and picked up a pickup truck load of sawdust, however, when he started unloading it, he saw that there is some walnut mixed in with many other wood types. Since you have said not to use walnut, would this be a problem and should we look elsewhere and try to get sawdust that has no walnut in it?

Question 2: This may be somewhere, but I haven't seen it so forgive me if I'm asking something I should already know the answer to. What is the best orientation for the grow beds? Or does it matter?

Thanks so much!

Sharon & Group:

If the walnut dust is a very small % you MIGHT be able to get away with it. I would not try it myself, no matter the %, unless it was aged and decomposed for several years, and even then I'd have to be desperate.

The direction your rows go does NOT matter. Th thing that DOES matter is having taller plants to the NORTH or EAST of shorter plants.
