[MittleiderMethodGardening] gypsum

Jim, it use to be I could go to Co-op and pick up gypsum in the powder form. It now is only sold in pellets which makes making preplant mix impossible. Is the gypsum that is used to make sheetrock mud the same gypsum? You once said gypsum is gypsum. Is this a form a gypsum I can use.I can get a 50# bag of this a lot cheaper than the stuff from Co-op.

stt672 & Group:

Following is the detail of drywall compound, often called "mud":

"Ready-mix lightweight joint compound is a pre-made form of joint compound designed for fast application and easy maintenance. The compound is a complex combination of water, limestone, expanded perlite, ethylene-vinyl acetate polymer and attapulgite. This delicate mixture of compounds gives it a very creamy texture which allows it to spread onto surface with great ease."

I do NOT recommend you try and use it in the garden. Grinding up the actual gypsum board would be much preferable, but still not a great solution.
