Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] RE: Guinea hens
Guinea hens are the town-crier of poultry. Peafoul the second crier. Guinea
hens will inform all other poultry when the predators are near. Once the other
poultry understands the minor changes in their vocalizations, they will even
know which predator is on the loose. They also love to spend the night in your
trees (which is where they would be in the wild, and in the tree they would be
safe from the coyotes.) Cutting their wings will make them coyote bait. Unless
you have coyote-proof fencing, I'd leave their feathers to mother-nature.
Peafouls like to sleep on the highest part of your house roof or barn. They can
fly nicely. Peafoul are territorial and the males will pick a fight with your
automobile chrome bumper if it sees its own reflection. It is something to
watch.

I have had success with guinea hens in the past, but they don't seem to have
enough smarts to avoid coyotes. Do you clip wings and keep them in the garden?
