[Organic_Gardening] vine borers
Last year vine borers killed my pumpkins and squash. I forgot all about them and planted squash in the same garden this year, but it dawned on me the other day so I looked them up and am trying to do the only preventative (from what I read) which is to find them and kill them.
I have four squash plants about 6" tall and just starting to flower. Two I found telltale signs with, the sawdust stuff at the bottom, and slit them and got two vine borers out of each. The other two plants looked like the y might have on... but I couldn't tell and didn't want to keep slitting them. am I going to be doing this all season or do I just get them once and we'll fare okay? The ones that didn't have the sawdust at the bottom still had like... a woody black streak, just about 1/4" long, so I as wondering if that was a sign of the borers.
Any tips?
Thanks!
