Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] chipmunks and blueberries - Protection

Short fence of the 1/2" mesh. Bury it ~ 6" is suggested.
Atop that, a band of galvanized sheet metal. Squirrels
can jump about 10 feet horizontally and maintain most
of their altitude. I'd guess 3 ft for a chipmunk. Vertically,
less. Get rid of launch pads, and they can't climb over
this... which is like a rope's rat barrier. 1ft of galvy is enuf,
atop maybe 24" of mesh.

I had a lestus minimus and it was neat. He's make a 3
room home in a tuna can with a few cotton balls, and had
the manster race-wheel in full blur mode. If you can ship
me a few, I'd be happy to reinnoculate the area. Mine all
went when the city removed an entire series of 6 ft diameter
trees, then passed a law forbidding us to cut our own trees.
Plenty of cats here to limit populations.

>My blueberry patch (50x50) is annually under seige by chipmunks. I envision the
needed protection to be an impenitrable cage of half inch square hardware cloth
on a wood structure. Is there a better plan that doesn't involve expensive
fencing or armed kittie cats?
