Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] chipmunks and blueberries - Protection

Yup!
same chipmunk issues....they cannot resist peanutbutter and apples....no matter how many I catch in a live trap they keep coming...once i had 6 in one day..at some point I caught all of them I think, as well as squirrels and young rabbits....we turned them all loose in a very chipmuck friendly environment so the family could remain together on State Land far from our home....but be advised it will cost some for gas to keep carting them to new home...I hear Jack Russell Terriors will chase them and rats down holes to get at them... :) Kathy OMeal

Subject: [MittleiderMethodGardening] chipmunks and blueberries - Protection

My blueberry patch (50x50) is annually under seige by chipmunks. I envision the needed protection to be an impenitrable cage of half inch square hardware cloth on a wood structure. Is there a better plan that doesn't involve expensive fencing or armed kittie cats?

larse026 & Group:

The netting purchased at fabric stores should help, and would be much easier and less expensive than hardware cloth.

Any other ideas?
