[MittleiderMethodGardening] ] Encouragement to First-Timer
Thanks for the encouragement everyone.
I actually have had a garden for 6 years now. I live in an apartment complex and have a 12x12 garden space with additional 20x3 space for strawberries.
I had no problems at all the first 4 years and it was wonderful !! But last year I lost all my kale and chard and spinach to some bug that ate the leaves completely when full grown. I also had some of the white mold?? on cucumbers and the birds started eating my berries. It was like my garden was suddenly discovered.
This year it is worse and has started earlier. Baby plants of basil, kale, spinach are getting eaten alive. I have moved many to window planters. I am trying to protect the remaining ones with copper strips. And protected the berries with bird netting. There is now also a lone deer in the area so I have wrapped all my plants with bird netting to prevent loss. It is making it all somewhat difficult, but I have too many friends who have lost their entire gardens over night to critters so I am trying to do some preventative measures....
Perhaps I just have to get over this new hurdle and accept gardening has now become like investing in the stock market.....you have to get educated, make the leap, protect what you can and hope that you don't loose it all. So I need to now learn proper protection and accept that I have to implement these new practices.
Thanks again for all your encouragement.
