In California the State requires that all apiaries of 10 or more hives be registered so that the county inspector can come once a year to do an inspection for American Foul Brood. If he finds it he "red tags" the colony for a must "kill, burn, and burry". AFB is no joke - you need to treat it like the plague. Unless you have movable frame hives ( which are required by law) there is no way to observe your brood.

Where might that be, that doesn't have apiary inspections?
