Vegetables Gardening - Growing Organic Vegetables

I am in Central VA, zone 7. I have an established strawberry patch and I am converting my whole garden to the 18 inch wide level planting zones.

I think I understand that I can plant strawberries 8 inches apart on both sides. Is this correct? (That is correct - JK)

My next question is when would be the best time to move all the plants, now or in the really early spring? (Now is a good time to move them - JK) I am thinking now would be the best and before the first frost I plan to cover them with a heavy layer of straw. My thoughts is that this will help the root system.

I am open to any suggestions on the best way to convert the bed to the 18 inch wide row. (Instructions are in all of the Mittleider gardening books and in the Learn section of the website at www.growfood.com - JK)
