[MittleiderMethodGardening] Russia Stops Exports of Wheat until Late 2011 - Dramatic Effect on Wheat Prices
Group:
While family gardeners rarely grow wheat, because it is a "field crop" and takes a lot of space, wheat IS a staple of our food supply.
It is one of the best of foods, is dry and stores very well - MANY YEARS if done properly - and has generally been inexpensive.
I recommend each of you consider buying and storing as much as 300# per person in your family, and storing it in airtight containers, in a cool, dry place. I have successfully used and eaten wheat that was stored for more than 30 years.
And learn how to use it. It can be eaten as-is, but that is difficult and time-consuming; it can be cracked and used as cereal; ground finely it is flour of course; and it can be sprouted to give you greens.
Do it!
