Vegetables Gardening - Growing Organic Vegetables

good morning all, this summer was our first time ever planting....our first son planted tomatoes, and basil, our youngest planted sunflowers, well they are doing very well eatting few tomatoes enjoyed sunflowers....my question is is there anything we need to do to estumulate the production of tomatoes and could we get an apple tree now and planted, will it grow well for seasons to come or shoud we wait till next summer, we are up north east, close to canada.....thank you
