[MittleiderMethodGardening] How to deal with flower drop?

Hello everyone. I am a new member here and first time grower of some of the hottest pepper plants in the world. I live in Chico, Ca. I realize now that starting the seeds in the middle of May was too late. Anyway, some of my plants have been flowering for weeks but the flowers just turn yellow or brown and drop off to the touch. There seems to be plenty of insect activity for pollination and the store bought plants have started producing. A few weeks back the temperature was in the 100's. Should I have put up shade for them during these times? The temperatures this week vary from 95 degrees today, to 92 degrees this Friday. Nighttime temps will be 61 degrees tonight and 56 degrees tomorrow. Will my plants still have a chance to produce peppers now that the temperature has cooled off? Is there anything I can do to help my plants at this point? Any advice will be appreciated, thank you.
