[MittleiderMethodGardening] From Buckets to Raised beds...
Last year, we used all buckets, this year, we were 1/3 raised beds, 1/3 buckets and the rest in a regular garden in the ground. Well,,hubby didnt like his ground garden, so he wants to do raised beds next year. And I am tired of filling buckets and still having yellow plants that die off. I mulch in drums, that we roll everyday, and get nice black mulch. So we are doing it full time this year, to fill the raised beds next year. I use rain barrels, inside the barn for the rabbits, and I have 5 outside, at each corner of the house and garage. I am growing potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, peppers, tomatoes, beets, beans(vertical), and going vertical next year will be cukes, squash and melons. Not growing potatoes or SP next year. Now I have to plan the watering, but I dont mind doing it with the hose. It lets me check everything while I water, for critters or whatnot. I have 1 raised bed that is 4' wide and 24' long, and one 18" wide and 16' long. the new ones will be 18" wide and 16' long, and there will be about 10 of those, to take over hubbys garden ground. Then there will be a fence all the way around it, as we have a family reunion of wood chucks every year that like to stop in and stay. I start my garden at the beginning of April in Northern Ohio, and cover it with domed plastic, to protect from frost in April. 6" wide lattic bent into arches, then plastic over it and anchored down, from the wind. I get bored canning, so my mind wonders,,,Linda B
