Re: [Organic_Gardening] Sunflower seed plants

After the heads start turning brown, chop it down and let the head dry  out. You can feed the birds and squirrels with the seeds. Go ahead and throw the stalk in your compost heap. It will be fine. I enjoy growing an entire row of these mammoths to  see just how big they can get. I can feed the birds all winter on 1 row of these

Subject: [Organic_Gardening] Sunflower seed plants

Hi, this year I planted Sunflower seeds (Mammoth). But now as the season is beginning to change I'm wondering what I need to do with it. I don't want to grow it again next year wondering if I need to unearth it or just chop it down to prevent it regrowing. It has grown quite huge. If only my squash was so hardy...

Thanks,

ps can that be composted?
