Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] What to Grow in My Family's Garden - and How to Eat!
I would personally argue for some small amount of corn..I geow 6-12 along the North fence so it shades nothing. So very close to the fence it takes up unused space.
I grow a straight row.(gasp) which is "impossible," as a grouping is needed for pollination. Each silk strand represents a bred germ /growing kernal. Testing with incense I found my 6-7' fence caused eddying air currets. Voillè! Good pollination.
Pick the corn. Short 3 ft types may grow 1 small ear. I use 6ft and get 2 lg ears minimum.
Just grow a "few." It will act as a test. Home grown corn is at its peak and x
corn keeps for only 1-5 days, very varietally dependant. With the Mitt Method and perhaps 18" spacing, a pvc fert-water line may make 16" spacing less wasteful... or be too tight.
See what hens like. Grow some of that also. Kale is one but you may not need a lot.
Happy HollyDaze, all.
God bless and keep!
