[MittleiderMethodGardening] How to Prevent and/or Control pests in the Mittleider Garden

Group:

The question has been posed as to how the Mittleider Gardener avoids or controls bugs in the garden.  Here's my response:

There are several methods of insect pest control.

#1. Cultural Practices - No weeds in the garden, wide bare perimeter, bare dirt in the aisles.

#2. Water only the root zone of the plants. Everywhere else is dry and inhospitable to bugs.

#3. Grow healthy bug and disease-free seedlings in a protected environment for transplanting into the garden.

#4. Feed accurately and consistently, assuring fast growth and healthy plants that are less attractive to and resist bug damage.

#5 Healthy plants started from strong healthy seedlings are in the garden fewer days, and therefore less susceptible to damage.

#6. Prune plants regularly, removing all leaves that touch the ground, that are old and not productive, and that are overlapping other plants or blocking needed sunlight into the interior of the plants.

#7. Harvest plants immediately at peak maturity, not leaving them in the garden to grow old and attract bugs & disease.
