Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Blueberry spacing

schulzfamily >anybody got a spacing for blueberry bushes grown Mittleidery? >would like to use a four-foot bed...i assume one row of bushes down each side, but no idea how far apart. Jim's right, but I'd add that it depends on the blueberry also. There is a highbush type that can be spaced at up to 6 ft but closer, say, 4 ft would be great. But there are smaller types that can be 2-4 ft spacing. The issue is access to pick, sunlight exposure, and especially, cross pollination. Blueberries are sometimes self-fruitful, but they all do better with the assist of a partner. I suppose you are looking for volume production, but I'd mention that these have pretty lil flowers and can be nice on opposing sides of a gateway or along a sidewalk to your door. BillSF9c

Right, Bill. I neglected to mention that the main thing affecting the spacing is variety, and then diligence in pruning and care.
