Araksya and I must give up our elegant Victorian retreat in Gallatin, Missouri - just 5 miles from historic Adam Ondi-Ahman - in order to concentrate on the Kidder "Preparedness University" school 17 miles away that's going to require our full-time efforts. We thought some of you might like to check it out, so here are some of the details of this wonderful home and 8 acre retreat.Recently restored and updated, you are introduced to this wonderful 4500 square foot home at the large solid oak front doors. The front entry welcomes with a captivating open oak curved staircase and original hardwood floors. There's plenty of room for entertaining with a parlor, a spacious living room with Italian marble fireplace and mantel and piano alcove, a formal dining room, a wood paneled kitchen with new double oven and Kitchen Aid appliances, a family room with high efficiency wood insert fireplace, and a large sun room also with wood insert fireplace and new wrap-around windows.
In the basement there is a nice big laundry room with large exterior windows and a good-sized cool storage room. High efficiency gas furnaces are also recent improvements.
There is an additional stairway to the second story from the kitchen/family room. The second floor offers a master suite with large sitting room/library and walk-in closet, master bath and balcony, 3 additional bedrooms (one with large cedar closet) and a second full bath. The third floor features a wonderful area for teenagers or guests with full bath and 3-room living suite.
The outside features a 3 car drive-through insulated attached garage with storage room, office and a full size attic, and there is also a canning kitchenette by the back door in the garage. A large patio is great for entertaining, as well as a wonderful 18' X 36' year-round greenhouse that is heated and cooled very inexpensively using geo-thermal air and a fan. Come and smell the citrus blossoms in January! And the outdoor Mittleider Method raised-bed garden produces like crazy and includes an automatic watering system.
We enjoy a root cellar and super-insulated shed with solar panels, as well as a wind generator. Twenty three fruit and nut trees are also in various stages of growth, with most bearing fruit.
The seven additional acres that surround and give wonderful privacy to the home include a large fish-stocked pond and several acres of tilled land.
This truly unique home will make a wonderful family home, or for those with an empty nest who are looking for a great stay-at-home income it is ideally situated to become the Designated Historical Sites Bed Breakfast Retreat for North West Missouri.
And the best part is that it can all be yours for a fraction of what it would cost in most places!
Look at the pictures in the Photos section and give us a call to learn more and arrange a walk-through appointment.
