That's not to say that some commercial growers don't also waste nitrate fertilizers and pollute the ground water, but we have had soil scientists test Mittleider gardens as old as 20 years, and they find NO excess fertilizers - nitrates or otherwise.
You can rest assured that you are giving the plants WHAT they need in the AMOUNTS they need it and just WHEN they need it.
