Re: [Organic_Gardening] Re: Newbie
Very interesting--thanks for taking time for this, dear onion. I do some of what you describe in my garden, but wasn't familiar with this name. I haven't tilled since I first built my beds; I use straw as a heavy mulch to keep down weeds and sometimes over plant for the same reason, though this is problematic in rainy summers; and I only fertilize with compost, but the compost does have horse manure in it and I find this very useful; but I'm always concerned that my source for this wonderful compost may unwittingly use manure that has been contaminated with organophosphates. When I retire at the end of the coming year, I'll spend some time researching synergism in the garden. Thanks.

>Hi Rinda,
>here it is a definition:
>Synergistic gardening is a system of organic gardening, developed by Emilia Hazelip. The system is strongly influenced by permaculture, as well as the work of Masanobu Fukuoka and Marc Bonfils.
>After establishing the garden, there is no further digging, ploughing or tilling, and no use of external inputs such as manures and other fertilizers, or pesticides. Soil health is maintained by the selection of plants, mulching, and recycling of plant residues.
