interesting to note, i have one of those laser thermometers used for
cooking - so in half a second you can see what temp your pan is before
you drop an egg in, etc
about 90 days ago on a day when it was 100+ outside i decided to see how
hot the dirt in my backyard was
165.8 degrees was the temp of the soil. some sand in a fire pit
measured out to 170.
here's a link to the picture uploaded on photobucket. they say seeing
is believing and i know i could hardly believe it when i saw how HOT the
dirt gets on a hot day!!!! (the thermometer is accurate to 1/2 a degree
Fahrenheit)

i bought some shade screening after that, tomatoes doing much better now
