Hi Juanita ! 

    There is something a lot cheaper than commercial fertiliser -- as long as you don't put it on crops immediately before harvesting, and use it diluted one part to ten parts water. 
   
    To put it delicately -- use a pee pot !  It's free and you produce it everyday and it's sterile as long as you don't have a water infection.  If you keep it in a cool place for 6 months, then use it it's better, because the nutrients become less soluble and then act as slow-release fertiliser.

    I'm sure other people have other ideas too.
