Re: [Organic_Gardening] New - Daisy
no matter how old or new the house, the soil is rarely prepared for planting, unless you are lucky to live on land that was previously a farm or a naturally fertile area or owned by a gardener. I try to let the products do the work. I frequently use impatiens as a annual planting in areas that I want the soil to break up and become more amenable to planting of perennials. After a couple of seasons, the earth becomes loose and it is easier to amend. Little by little the soil becomes lovely to work with and open to all types of planting and in the meantime I have some lovely color. Of course, if you want a quick reaction this won't do but it has worked for me. Melanie zone 6, Mi but formerly of Arizona and Oregon.

> Hi My Name Daisy and I'm new to the forum. I garden in a small suburban backyard in Reno, Nv. My garden area is approximately 248 sq ft. I love to grow mostly food and some flowers. One of my goals are to get rid of landscaping rocks and fabric and dig into my concrete-like soil so that I may plant beautiful perennials but this has proven to be a backbraking job. Would love to meet some members.
