You could apply a course ground gypsum at a rate of 1lb/10 square foot, work into soil and repeat a few weeks later and possibly a third or fourth time until the soil structure improves. Adding organic matter and other soil amendments is going to help also but less so if your working up from a solid clay. I would have a soil test first to see if your soil is calcium deficient as this is usually the reason clay type soils are difficult. It would not hurt to ask you local USDA extension agent for advice as they should have experience with your local soils but lately the usda has been cutting back a lot.
