[MittleiderMethodGardening] Automated watering - Soaker Hoses or Mittleider-style PVC System

Group:

One of our group members asked if he could use soaker hoses to automate his garden. I mentioned my feelings about the subject, including better reliability, lower cost, etc. and he responded as follows, which I thought you'd enjoy:

"Hello Jim its me nick from texas..just wanted to say that i have reviewed the prices of class 200 pvc vs running flat tube and hoses etc..and I must confess that you are absolutely correct..here in texas a 10ft stick of 1 inch class 200 pvc is only 1.43. and 3/4 is only 1.19 for 10ft...going 400 ft to the garden area only costing a little over 65 bucks! you cant move water any cheaper than that and especially with the pressure loss factor its the most efficient..and the rows usually will run about $8.00 each by the time you buy the ball valve, 30 ft of 3/4 and all the fittings.

"And just like you said its a small investment for the piece of mind and you have it forever. I personally think its brilliant the way the holes are drilled in the pipe so that water pressure is really not an issue.

"I also wanted to say that i checked out your detailed instructions on the website under the frequently asked questions and that really helped a lot and i was able to get a better visual than i had before and it seems easy.. thanks"
