Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Re: Master Tomato Growers in Texas

Melinda,

This why having a multi layer capability is so important. What if you were depending completely on this garden for food? YOu can keep these varmints adn insects out by installing a multi layering system.

I know something that can be installed to deter moles and snakes as well

Here is a small scale unit for smaller gardens to show you what this might look like. I am working on getting some pictures/video clips ready to show you the home systems our group has established to eliminate these issues.

We build our own only include other layering options and a wind tunneling device.

I don't know personally yet if this works but one of our group from Texas fills air mattresses with cold water and sets these in between his garden rows at about 10 AM...he says the temp cools down the plants and then absorbs some of the surrounding energy and then he pulls it out at night and puts new air mattresses filled with cold water in the rows.... whew!

If it were me I would try and put water towers in the freezer and then put these around the plants.

I make these up with a vacuum sealer from any tough plastic and I have used greenhouse plastic :)

This summer we had some very long dry spell and high heat and the water towers worked great and soaking the shading cloths worked great....at night I also put damp blankets in the freezer and then hung them close to the plants using grip clips on parachute cord that hung from the grow hut hoops and perlins....this dropped the temp some from the top....

So the same water towers that help to absorb adn then give off heat can be used to absorb some surrounding heat... but you have to watch them and that means someone would need to be around the house
