Because commercial ammonium nitrate seems to be hard to get in small amounts,
consider natures resources. If you or your neighbors raise hens in a coup,
volunteer to rake the hen house out in exchange for a few eggs. The poop is
nearly 100% ammonia-nitrogen. In a bucket toss in a shovel full of hen poop in
a plastic 2.5 gallon bucket (about one pound). Add water to the two gallon mark
in the bucket. Stir and let solids settle to the bottom. Gently pour the
manure tea into your watering space leaving solids in the bucket to add more
water. Add the left-over solids in your compost. A secondary resource is
rabbit droppings. A third resource is you. Relieve your bladder into the
bucket.. add two gallons of water. The water will not burn your plants roots as
it is very diluted. Nancy Kosling

I've finally gotten my seedlings in, but I can't find ammonium nitrate anywhere.
It is recommended to put 1 cup of ammonium nitrate down the middle of the seed
bed right after transplanting seedlings. Even the farm supply places say they
don't carry it anymore (possibly because it's used in explosives.) They said I
could get it in bulk from places that sell to commercial farmers, but I only
need 5 cups. I can find nitrogen in the form of urea, but I'm afraid it might
burn my new transplants. Any ideas? (Use Urea - JK)
