Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Trouble finding ingredients for the Starter mix and the Weekly feed mix
Hi I don't know if this will help but you can get gypsum through
www.azurestandards.com if you have a loal distuibutor there in Grand Junction or
you can become a distributor. I don't live in Grand Junction but my Dad was
born there, does that count? HA!

Subject: [MittleiderMethodGardening] Trouble finding ingredients for the Starter
mix and the Weekly feed mix
Hi Jim,
I live in Grand Junction CO. I have been to Nurseries, Co-ops, farm supply, and
feed stores. This is what each has said.
"Gypsum" - They do not carry Gypsum because it will not break down the type of
clay we have in our area.
We have enough calsium in our soil and no one in this area has need of it.
Farm store person said "CSU extension service says it is not needed in this
area. The closest place it would be vailable is in Utah." (a 4-5 hour drive
away).
Weekly Feed
We have ordered the Mittleider Magic Mix, and searching diligently for the other
ingredients to add to it.
16-8-16 not available
16-16-16 not available
Ammonium Nitrate we were told is extremely hard to get but we could substitute
Ammonium Sulfate and use 17 lb instead of 10 lb, so that's what we bought.
But... that's going to throw off the amount we use per 30'. I do not know how to
calculate that. Is it okay to use the sulfate instead of the nitrate?
Is there any one else in Grand Junction doing this method of gardening??
We do have a hydroponics store that carries many different plant nutrients, he
was nice to say he would try to order the components we need. But he is not he
can get them.
We are anxious about the shipping and handling costs. What do you suggest?
Thanks in advance for your help
Lyn
