[MittleiderMethodGardening] tomatoes
Is it too late to start tomato seeds? I am in North Central Idaho and our last
expected frost is May 11 but we are not out of danger until June 3rd.. The
variety is an 85 day tomato.
Thanks, Melissa
Melissa & Group:
It is quite late to be starting tomato seeds. Also peppers and eggplant. These three take almost 8 weeks to grow from seed to garden-size seedlings.
Several other warm-weather plants can be started from seed right now, such as squashes, beans, cucumbers, and melons. They all grow fast, and can give you a good yield.
The nightshade plants would not givy you any production until August, and in your location that probably means only about 1 month + before possible frost.
I recommend you buy seedlings, if you can get good ones at a reasonable price.
And LEARN TO GROW YOUR OWN BY NEXT SPRING - AND START EARLIER!!
