In reading some of the posts I also realized that we made some raised beds that had a hoop lid that could be raised (or removed) to work in. They were short beds so could be placed end to end to hold the lid.
If it is covered with screen, netting or chicken wire that would work. You put the lid down or back on when you are done gardening each day. My husband made one with hooks on the side to keep the gusts of wind from blowing it off.
