Vegetables Gardening - Growing Organic Vegetables

Hello everyone! My name is Amity, I am a stay at home mom and student. I grew up around gardening and since being out on my own I have made one half hearted attempt to grow produce for our house. I really would like my daughter to have a deep respect for the earth and I truly believe that making and maintaining an organic garden will be a big help in developing that.

For our first family garden we are planning on using old recycling bins. Our city just got new recycling cans and has a plethora of the old bins just laying around. Because people don't realize they can be reused or recycled. Anyways I have about 7 and am working on acquiring at least 7 more. Since we are new to this any advice would be much appreciated.

Oh just a little geographic info. I live in northeast Indiana, can't compost because our landlord won't let us:( I am also trying to get a work share at a local CSA to supplement what we grow. I plan on canning any extras. Oh and I would love some advice on organic fertilizer and rain water collection.
