[MittleiderMethodGardening] Re: potatoes

I grew some in a 30' row and they did very well. I used the drilled pipe to
water them. I fertilized them as prescribed. I was afraid that by not
hilling the row by adding dirt or mulch as they grew that I would have some
"green ends" on the potatoes as a result of exposure to the sun. I had
several but not enough to convince me that this method didn't work. I
planted Kennebecs and had a good yield.

I planted some in a Grow Box with sand and rice hulls. I tried Russets
since that is what we grew on the farm in Idaho. They didn't do well partly
because Russets don't like the kind of heat we have here in Missouri and
partly because the sand/ricehull mixture didn't retain mosture well enough.
I am modifying the mixture with more sawdust this year.
