Re: [MittleiderMethodGardening] How to grow tomato plants from seed

Good advice on the florescent. Check the UV/UltraViolet.
That sterilizes and kills. I believe as it gives an odd light,
it is being mistaken for a grow-light or other spectrum light.
There are actually 2 different spectrum used for activating
growth or flowering, but very few plants require those and
while good, are not usually considered until one reaches
a point of spending the money for light systems that serve
a 10x10 area and run 400-1000 watts and cost in the
hundreds. These are bright, and ideal for tomatoes, LOL,
though bang for buck would not be ideal.
So regular grow bulbs will be florescent or incandescent.
A widely recognized recognized valid substitute is
considered to be a 4 ft florescent shop fixture with one
cool and one warm, bulb. They may not be cute, but are
more energy efficient than incandescent lights. And while
we do not see it, output of these florescent grow bulbs
does drop off exceedingly after a season of use, although
they will light for years.
I like to have a light meter for houseplants and seed lighting.
These are $5-15, depending on if they are in a test
instrument that does other things. My present one
also does moisture and pH. There is a way to do
this using an old 35mm manual SLR camera that has
a metering system.
